Neck Pain

To say it’s a pain in the neck would sometimes be an understatement. Neck pain can be disabling when severe. Neck pain can also lead to specific types of headache, arm pain and even pins and needles. Your Hertford chiropractor is a spinal pain specialist (five-year full time degree) who has extensive expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of neck pain, including whiplash. Additionally, your chiropractor is also fully qualified in acupuncture, which can also help enormously with neck pain.

Many patients come to Advance Chiropractic & Acupuncture Clinic, Hertford suffering with neck pain. As with back pain, most types of neck pain respond brilliantly to chiropractic and/or acupuncture treatment. This includes neck pain of recent onset, or which has been there for a long time, even years.

I contacted David in Nov 2015 after suffering with periods of neck pain for many years. Ever since the 1st appointment I have been very pleased with the service. I have to travel by car for 40 mins from North London to David but it is worth it to be pain free and know that I am getting a very good service. – David Rojas

What Causes My Neck Pain?

Closeup of female patient neck muscles treatmentNeck pain can be caused by a number of factors, including:

  1. Poor posture – including when standing, seated, driving, sleeping, walking, or when bending and twisting or lifting.
  2. Inactivity – including sitting for long periods at work or at home, or when driving.
  3. Emotional stress – especially when experienced on a long-term basis.

These and other factors can lead to one or more problems with how your spine in your neck functions, including:

  1. Joint pain
  2. Trapped nerve
  3. Muscle spasm
  4. Slipped disc – also called a prolapsed disc or disc prolapse

I came to David, barely being able to move my neck and shoulders and being in such severe pain…After my first session the relief was amazing. – Charli Rolfe

What Happens When You Assess My Neck?

When you come to the clinic, we carefully assess you to find out which of the above factors might be involved in your neck pain. We take a detailed case history and perform a comprehensive physical exam. Postural, orthopaedic and neurological tests are always used.

We’ll ask you detailed questions about your daily activities. We’ll also want to know about your medical history and what’s happened to you in the past, i.e., car accidents, sports injuries, trips, falls, bumps and fractures etc.

More rarely, it may be necessary to arrange for you to undergo an x-ray or MRI scan. As a qualified chiropractor, we’re trained to interpret the results of any x-ray or scan we refer you for, or which you’ve had in the past.

Why Is a Specific Diagnosis for My Neck Pain So Important? How Can Your Hertford Chiropractor and Acupuncture Specialist Help Here?

Young woman getting acupuncture treatment in therapy roomEstablishing the specific cause of your neck pain is crucial. This naturally leads to the chiropractic and/or acupuncture treatment most likely to help relieve your neck pain. A chiropractor is a highly qualified spinal health expert and is best placed to find the cause of your neck pain. Even if you’ve had your neck pain a long time, we can probably help.

Your treatment can begin once we’ve established a specific diagnosis for your condition. ‘Neck pain’ is not a diagnosis. We have to be much more specific than that. Our training and experience as a chiropractor enables us to be more specific.

A specific diagnosis means you obtain the right treatment for your neck pain right from the start. It’s also more likely to help us help you prevent similar neck pain episodes in the future.

Chiropractic and/or acupuncture always aim to get to the root cause of your neck pain. The treatment we offer is therefore much more likely to be effective and the results longer lasting.
